Which regex flavour is used?
JavaScript (ECMAScript), the engine in your browser. Most patterns carry over to Python, Java and PCRE, but lookbehind, named groups and flags differ in places.
What do the flags mean?
i ignores case, m makes ^ and $ match at each line, s lets . match newlines, u enables Unicode mode and g (always on here) finds every match instead of the first.
Why are matches capped at 500?
A pattern that matches very often can freeze a tab. The list stops at 500 and tells you when it was cut short.
