Frequently asked questions

Are these UUIDs unique?

Version 4 UUIDs carry 122 random bits from crypto.randomUUID, so a collision is astronomically unlikely in practice.

What is the difference between a UUID and a GUID?

They are the same 128-bit format. GUID is the name used in the Microsoft ecosystem.

Can I use them as database keys?

Yes, but random v4 values index less efficiently than time-ordered ids in large tables. Consider UUID v7 or ULID if insert locality matters.

Are they generated on a server?

No. They are created locally and never leave the page.
